In the library, tap the blue arrow to get more information about a title.

Alternatively, when reading tap the title to bring up more info.

Here you can edit the title and tags of a book.
In addition, you may enable “Dictionary Integration” (swipe to look up), “Passcode Protection” or set encoding for this book.
These settings will only work for the current book, i.e. they will not affect any other book.

Batch loading of txt files is achieved through ZIP files.
To load multiple items into BookZ:
Arrange all txt files into a folder, compress the folder into a .zip archive.

Drag and drop the zip archive onto BookZ Web Server (Mac) or HTTP File Server(Win)

Download the file in BookZ->Utilities->Connect to a Book Server->BookZ Webserver. If you are unsure how to do this, please refer to “Loading Books from a Mac” or “Loading Books from a PC“.

In the library view, select any book and BookZ enters “reading mode”.
When reading, tap the middle of the screen to bring up controls:

1. Exit Button: quits reading and gets back to the library view.
2. Title: tap the title and BookZ will show more information about this book
3. Bookmarks: shows all bookmarks for the current book
4. Progress slider: quickly jump to any part of the book by sliding the white circle.
5. Add Bookmark: adds a bookmark for the current location
6. Day night mode: tap to enter the color theme for night mode, tap again for day mode. Colors are configurable in “Preferences.
7. Rotation lock: to prevent automatic rotation, tap this button
8. Search: this button activates the search bar for locating a word/phrase in the current book
9. Dictionary: brings up the dictionary panel so that you can look up words in a foreign literature
10. Extra Tools
Smart Layout: when this is enabled, BookZ will try to decide if there are unnecessary linebreaks and remove them.
Book Info: shows book-specific settinfs
* When reading, you can swipe over a word to look it up in the dictionary. To use this feature, you need to enable the “Dictionary Integration” option in “Preferences”.
Stardict is an open source dictionary with thousand of databases available for free.
Please take a look at Stardict dictionary page for available dictionaries.
This tutorial illustrates how to load a Stardict dictionary into BookZ.
***WIFI network required***
Step 1:
Download a Stardict dictionary package from Stardict dictionary page
Dictionaries are available in tarball(.tar.bz2) and rpm form, download the tarball only.

Step 2:
Extract the dictionary (Windows users may need an unarchive utility such as 7-zip or WinRar)
Rename the file with .dz extension (e.g. ldaf.dict.dz) to .gz (ldaf.dict.gz for this example).
Futher extract the .gz file and you’ll get a .dict file (ldaf.dict)

Step 3:
In BookZ, go to Utilities->Upload Dictionaries to iPhone/iPod Touch
Open a browser (Safari, Firefox, IE, etc.) on your Mac/PC and enter the address shown on the iPhone/iPod Touch.

Upload all files with .idx, .dict and .ifo extensions, one by one.

Step 4:
In BookZ, tap “Import Uploaded Dictionaries”
Requirement: a WIFI network that connects your iPhone/iPod Touch to your PC
Step 1:
Download HTTP File Server (hfs.exe), put it on your Desktop.
Step 2:
Drag and drop .txt or .zip files onto the hfs.exe icon.

Step 3:
On your iPhone/iPod Touch, open BookZ and go to “Utilities”. Tap “Connect to a Book Server”, key in the address and tap “BookZ Server Browser”.


Step 4:
Tap on individual entries to download, or “Download All” to download all files in the list

Requirement: a WIFI network that connects your iPhone/iPod Touch to your PC
Step 1:
Download BookZ Web Server and move it to /Applications
Step 2:
Run BookZ Web Server and add some books. You can drag and drop .txt or .zip files onto the Dock icon or into the table.

Step 3:
On your iPhone/iPod Touch, open BookZ and go to “Utilities”. Tap “Connect to a Book Server”, key in the address and tap “BookZ Server Browser”.


Step 4:
Tap on individual entries to download, or “Download All” to download all files in the list
